I’ve been searching for a Turbo Van for years. Of course I find one..........ACROSS THE COUNTRY!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If I knew a way to get this to WI without spending a lot of money, it would be on it’s way already.

ROAD TRIP!
Get with E90M3, he’ll road trip anything.

The thought crossed my mind. Taking a week off work to do it isn’t really an option though.

Why would you need to take a week off of work to get something you could do in a day?

The drive from Portland east is pretty nice though. I enjoyed my trip.

Godspeed.

A week? The two of us can knock it out in just over a day. :)
![]() 04/13/2018 at 09:08 |

You could probably do it in 3 full driving days, if it would do the speed limits out west. Not hard to knock out 800 miles without even speeding in a day (I’d do Bozeman/Billings, then Mitchell, SD as stops if I didn’t have reliability concerns, as that would safely put you into Madison on the third day), but that assumes the $900 Craigslist Turbo Voyager doesn’t have quirks.
I’ve shipped cars coast to coast for a shade over $900 in the spring. If you stay away from June & September it’s generally reasonable.

Dat red velour!!!

It’s gorgeous!
![]() 04/13/2018 at 10:06 |

I wouldn’t be worried about driving it back. It shouldn’t have much issue cracking the speed limit either.

Not sure how the wife would feel about me taking a road trip with another woman. ;)

It’s 29hrs 1 way?

Just tell her I have different plumbing than her and I already have a boyfriend lol. I’m in it for dat road trip.
I recommend doing it like I do. Fly out to the van then drive it back. :)
![]() 04/13/2018 at 12:52 |

Ok, maybe I misread your post but “across the state” sounds like you’re on one end and the van is on the other end of the same state.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:35 |
|
It was supposed to be across the country, that’s what I get for being excited and not proof-reading before hitting post.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:37 |

Fly in drive home?
That thing’s damn clean. Not stick, but damn clean.
Edit: “4speed auto” Uhhhhh.... no?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:38 |
|
that interior!! I can smell it from here, but I’m sure its insanely comfy.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:39 |
|
Therein lies the problem, I refuse to fly..........
I thinking with 2-3 drivers driving straight thru it could be done in 3 days.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:41 |
|
Ya, guessing 3 speed. Unless dude swapped in a PT/Neon trans, it’s not unheard of.
Honestly if I can get one that clean, I don’t care if it’s a stick or not.
I refuse to fly though, so that eliminates flying out.

Why would they replace something reliable and bulletproof with a 41TE time bomb? :P
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:42 |
|
The world would be a better place if more vehicles came with the combo of turbo motors and red velour interiors.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:42 |

Just come out and do it. The PNW is the land that time forgot, when it comes to odd old cars usually in a state of acceptable preservation. Shipping might cost the price of the car, so driving may be more reasonable.
An old friend had a 90 Caravan ES with the same wheels.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:45 |
|
Eh, the 41TE is damn bulletproof, when taken proper care of. Hell, even with just proper maintenance they can handle a lot of abuse for a very long time, longer than any 413/470/670 I’ve had could take it. Key is proper maintenance, without it, they go to hell in a hurry.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:49 |

Tell that to all the heavy duty techs at Dodge dealers in the 90's and 00's who made bank of rebuilding and replacing them.... There were SOME vans that seemed to go forever without issue, but a majority of them shit the bed. Repeatedly.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:50 |
|
How do you put that many miles on a van and have it come out looking so nice?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:54 |
|
I’ve had a lot of A604 variant vehicles over the years. Fluid/filter every 15-30k, upgrade the trans cooler, 200k without issue being abused.
The majority of them the shit the bed were due to lack of proper care, solenoid packs being misdiagnosed as a bad trans, and sensor issues being misdiagnosed as a bad trans.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:55 |

Keep it clean. My 94 has 225k of WI life, I finally got 2 small holes in my rockers this winter from all the damn spray salt they started using.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 13:56 |
|
Well, that’s like, your opinion based off a small sample of examples. Man.
Plus not everyone is adding trans coolers and flushing or changing the filter more often than the manual recommends.

Maybe you could link up oppos from Portland to Minneapolis? Everyone drives an hour or two, hands off to the next person, and so on. Then you can grab it in MN and get it home! The problem is that the route is pretty sparsely populated.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 14:01 |
|
There are like, five parts of that van that aren’t red. Six, max.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 14:17 |
|
Then as long as the weather cooperates, it’s a beautiful drive.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 14:22 |
|
So don’t get all your hopes up but, if your serious about this van, I could ask my wife if she is okay with me doing a road trip with a complete stranger I met from the internet. I live by Rochester, MN so I am not far from the roads you would end up on to go out there. Just saying.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 14:35 |

LOL
![]() 04/13/2018 at 14:39 |

“Therein lies the problem, I refuse to fly..........”
All jokes aside, I understand. My stepmom has had that issue almost her entire life. Occasionally, she can drug up and deal with it.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 16:07 |
|
Hey we’ve talked a few times, we’re not “complete” strangers. ;)
![]() 04/13/2018 at 16:12 |

Most people who owned them never changed the fluid/filter, then bitched when it hatched at 100k. The book quoted 50k under normal use IIRC. Good shops will tell you 30k under normal use.
They needed fluid/filter more often due to the compact design, which only takes about 1/3 the fluid of most transmissions. 4qts is all it takes for a pan drop, which is less than a usual oil change, it makes sense you have to change it more often if you want it to last.
I specifically look for vans/cars with “bad transmissions”. 9/10 are just wrongfully diagnosed. Many times fluid/filter and a computer reset and they’re back up and working. Other times, it’s a simple pack change. Our 95 Voyager for example “needed a trans”. I took it home, changed the fluid/filter, and beat the living hell out of it for another 99,000 miles before grenading a diff on a reverse drop.

That could actually be quite fun.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 18:24 |

If it was somewhere in Texas to Wisconsin, I’d honestly take a turn to get it closer to you. Alas, I can’t help with this one.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:06 |
|
Lol that’s true. So are you serious?
![]() 04/16/2018 at 06:57 |
|
Sadly the wife says if I go to get it I can plan on living in it.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 09:38 |
|
I just don’t understand why hoarding cars is frowned upon by some people.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 10:06 |
|
I don’t really hoard cars. I have my van which is my current daily. The truck which will be sold as soon as it’s fixed. And my car which will take over daily duty once I get it finished. This van would be a backup/show vehicle if we got it. She just doesn’t want to spend the money right now, which I can get behind as we’re trying to get everything paid off so we can move out of town.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 12:29 |
|
Makes sense. Well good luck and hope you find another turbo van once your able to afford it.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 12:31 |
|
I hope so too. The wife’s usually quite reasonable on things, so I think once we’re where we want to be, she’ll have no issue with it, even if I pay more for a nice one.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 13:19 |
|
Well if you stay close to Minnesota and need a sidekick for car retrieval shenanigans, give me a shout.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 16:05 |

We’re definitely staying in WI, likely in the same town, just moving to the country to avoid nosey neighbors.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 18:14 |

Hells yeah. I enjoy living in the country.
